‘Inspirations’ - The BIGGEST Celebration of STEM in Education.

Inspirations is a free annual showcase event dedicated to celebrating young people's achievements in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) as well as innovation and enterprise.

Over 1,000 students and teachers from across the region take part in fun and interactive activities, linking classroom learning with real career opportunities.

The event aims to promote and celebrate STEM studies and related careers, with opportunities to take part in ‘hands on’ workshops and challenges. Students are at the heart of the event displaying their ideas, projects and prototypes to our expert judges recruited from business.

At the core of this event is a real celebration of achievement - we put young people at the heart of this event, displaying their ideas, whether STEM or Enterprise projects and prototypes created within education or outside. Over 80 judges award 50 prizes to students with projects in areas such as engineering, graphics, electronics, textiles, sustainability and innovation.

Additionally we welcome primary schools to showcase their idease created through STEM or Enterprise.

We team up with local employers and organisations including Drax Power, Doosan, McCains GB Food, Dale Power Solutions, FERA, Nestlé, RAF, Army, Navy, York Potash Project, The York Merchant Adventurers, Partline, and the Rotary Club of York Vikings as well as our education partners Higher York Outreach Network, Askham Bryan College, York St John University, York College and many more.

When and where is it?

The next event will be on Thursday 28th June 2018, 10:00 - 14:30, Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington, York.

What can we expect?

Alongside students showcasing their project work, there will be lots of ‘hands on’ STEM activities and access to careers information going on throughout the day, provided by employers and organisations - all aimed at highlighting careers, pathways and demonstrating STEM in the workplace.

In addition the event will also house STEM challenges that we have run over this academic year, including the ever popular solar Boat Challenge.

Please email yvonne@nybep.org.uk to receive further details on any of the challenges above. (first come first served basis)

How can we be involved?

Schools and colleges are invited to attend the event as:

  • a visiting school taking part in the on the day activities
  • bring along and showcase students STEM work, either their portfolio work that has been produced as part of GCSE or A Level coursework, STEM clubs or hobbies - any students who have a business idea or prototype will benefit from taking part in Inspirations
  • take part in one of the challenges listed above - all challenge work will be completed prior to the event.
